Our standard day rate is £349.79
We generally don't take on projects less than one day as it is difficult to break up developers time into small chunks and keep them productive. Also, while you friend may say that a particular job is only five minutes worth the reality is that the developer has to take the time to understand your needs precisely - paid time - not spare time, then more time to understand your system or site (rather than jump in without planning as an amateur who will just walk away if there is a disaster), to get access information, usernames and passwords, access and back up the files being worked on, make the changes (this may be the 5 minutes that your friend told you about), to test the changed page, to test the rest of the site, to report to you and wait for your response, to make any follow-up changes (most of the process above to be repeated) and ultimately and to correctly document the changes so that other programmers can understand exactly what has been done in the future.
